There has been a massive response to the recent survey from the local Conservatives. Sent to almost 3,000 residents in parts of Noctorum and Claughton, the survey is the first since the local party was reformed in September 2023.
One of the top issues raised by residents is the need to retain Noctorum Fields, between Noctorum Lane and Noctorum Road, in the face of a planning application for 33 houses, destroying what is designated in the Council's draft Local Plan as 'Local Green Space'.
Conservative Campaigner Bobby Cartwright said:
Green spaces are few and far between in Birkenhead and the ones we have must be protected for future generations. Development, including new houses, should focus on run down, urban areas - so called 'brownfield sites'. Those residents who have, so far, taken part in our survey do not want this land to be lost.
The site met eight of the nine criteria for designation as 'Local Green Space' in the Council's long-delayed Local Plan but the plan isn't yet legally in force.
Following an appeal against the refusal of planning permission by Birkenhead School, the Planning Inspectorate had intended to hold a hearing in March. However, this was cancelled, and it will now be a full Public Inquiry.
