Families in Prenton will be able to access a variety of different support services under one roof thanks to the launch of Wirral’s ninth Family Hub.
Family Hubs are spaces where families can easily access a wide range of non-judgemental support to help them live well in Wirral. They bring together maternity services, health visitors, library and foodbank services and children’s centre activities.
The government is investing around £300 million to embed the family hub approach and enhance Start for Life services across the country for families with children aged 0-19 years, and 0-25 years for children with SEND.
On top of this, eligible working parents of 2-year-olds are currently able to register to access 15 hours free childcare per week from April 2024. This is the first step in the rollout of the largest investment in childcare in England’s history, expanding 30 free hours of childcare for working parents, from nine months old up to when their child starts school by September 2025. This is set to save parents using the full 30 hours up to £6,500 per year.
In addition to the usual family hub offer, the new Koala North West Family Hub will also house more specialist support for families with infants and younger children.
Koala North West is a charitable organisation based in Wirral, providing support for families with children aged 0-11. As such, they bring to the table their expertise with services including a range of Early Years Services, including Breastfeeding Peer Support, SEND services, Family Support, and Sleep Support.
Bev Morgan, CEO at Koala North West, said:
“We’re excited to be joining the Family Hub team hopefully bringing our services and others to more families who need them across the borough.”
Wirral’s Family Hubs make services easier to navigate and more joined-up, ensuring families receive the right service at the right time. They each offer the same core services – with extra support tailored to the needs of the local communities they serve.
Minister for Public Health, Start for Life and Primary Care, Dame Andrea Leadsom said:
It is fantastic to see so many of these vital hubs within easy reach of families up and down the country.
We’re committed to ensuring all parents get better access to help and support to improve their child’s learning and development, including learning at home.
