The council elections on 4 May are the last until 2027. Or are they?
Over the last few years, we've seen a number of elected councillors have to give up their role - whether due to work, ill health or family issues. The next four years may be no different. That's why we're starting now to recruit a By-election Team for the Wallasey and Birkenhead constituencies.
We're looking for people who would be willing to stand in a by-election in a ward between now and 2027. It could be a ward that we have a good chance of winning or it could be a ward that we haven't won recently or even ever...
Unlike the elections in May, when we were covering 12 wards, in a by-election we'd only be covering that one - that means there would be a campaign team to help. We will also be setting aside £1,000 to pay for any by-election campaign, although we'd hope to offset some of that from an Appeal to members for donations.
A by-election campaign usually lasts for around 4-6 weeks and for that, we'd agree with you things like:
- A campaign timetable - what we are doing, and when
- A publicity plan - leaflets, social media and direct mail
- Visits - to residents, local organisations and areas that need attention
So what makes a good candidate?
- Someone who has a proven track record as a good team player
- Someone who can work well under pressure
- Someone who has an interest in local issues and understands the main national political issues
If you'd like to put your name forward, email us and we'll be in touch.
Of course, if you'd like to know more about standing as a Parliamentary candidate, Police Commissioner candidate or Metro Mayor candidate, we'd like to hear from you as well.
