The UK has faced unprecedented challenges in recent years caused by the pandemic and Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. By sticking with the plan, economic stability has been restored, inflation cut and wages are rising. But there is more to do.
Cutting your taxes
Right now, workers have to pay two taxes: income tax as well as National Insurance. It’s not fair on workers and it’s not good for our economy.
That’s why the Conservatives have a clear plan. So far, we’ve cut National Insurance by a third — from 12% to 8%. That’s a £900 tax cut for someone on an average salary of £34,500.
We will abolish National Insurance entirely, ending the unfair double tax on work and support the workers who keep our economy going.
We will also support the self-employed by abolishing their main rate of self-employed National Insurance by the end of the Parliament.
Improving skills
The world is growing more uncertain. The workplace is changing, the skills required are different, and young people face new challenges.
So our job is to make sure all young people can thrive, no matter what the world looks like.
If you vote to stick with our clear plan, we’ll end rip-off degrees, deliver 100,000 more apprenticeships.
Locally, we will encourage companies in Wirral, such as Cammell Laird, to gain more contracts from the increased defence budget, bringing jobs and skills to our maritime and defence industries.
Making work pay
Under Labour, the Minimum Wage was £5.80 an hour. Since we introduced the National Living Wage in 2016, it has risen to £11.44 and we've extended to all workers aged over 21.
We will ensure people are better off in work. The National Living Wage will rise further, to around £13 per hour based on current figures.
Parents should never be forced to choose between work and childcare. Conservatives will DOUBLE free childcare.
This means parents will have access to 30 hours of free childcare from the time their kids are 9 months old to the time they start school.
